Industrial R&D Fellowships

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Industrial R&D Fellowships (IRDF) program provides financial support to companies to hire recent doctoral (PhD) graduates in support of their research and development (R&D) activities. It also encourages recent PhD graduates in science and engineering to seek first time careers in the Canadian private sector.

Recognizing the need to invest in the development of highly-qualified people, RDC is building on existing programs at NSERC and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) to enable small and medium-sized companies to enhance their R&D capacity. Through IRDF, RDC will partner with NSERC to enable Newfoundland and Labrador companies to hire recent PhD graduates in support of research and development – a key driver behind innovation and the commercialization of new products, services and processes. ACOA may also provide financial support to successful applicants through its Business Development Program (BDP).
